Other things your Piggie needs.
Your piggy will need a heavy bowl for the food (ceramic works well.) and an
even heavier one to serve water in if the water bowl is the option you
wish to take. If you prefer, you can use a water bottle with a
metal spout for the water, this prevents the guinea pig getting any
poop or bedding in their water and reduces the number of times it will need
to be changed. You might also want to use a hay rack to feed the
hay but I find this may reduces the amount of hay that gets consumed so
I never use one! It is more important to me for my
pigs to eat lots of hay and keep themselves healthy than for them to
have an immaculate cage with no hay littering the floor. Besides, they
just love to romp and play in the hay and some people have rported that
they have had piggies get stuck trying to get into the hay racks to get at the
hay.
You will also need to provide a place for your Piggie to hide,
They
are by nature a prey animal and need a place to feel safe and secure. There
are several types of comercial hiding spots on the market, Like the Pig-a-Loo,
Fiddle sticks, or even one of the wooden houses. But the one our Piggies like the most
are plan ordianay cardboard boxes with openings cut into the sides.
